The Electoral Commission (EC) has reassured the public that a discrepancy identified on a registration slip shared on social media does not impact the bearer’s eligibility to vote.
The registration slip showed that the bearer, who registered in Kasoa, Central Region, had their district mistakenly listed as Ayawaso North in the Greater Accra Region.
The commission, in a statement, clarified that the voter’s ID card, which is used at polling stations, does not, however, contain the said error and correctly reflects all pertinent voter information.
According to the EC, the registration slip is primarily used as a reference document and is necessary only when a voter needs to replace a lost or damaged voter ID card. Therefore, the error on the slip, while unfortunate, has no bearing on the voting process or the rights of the voter.
The commission has urged the public to maintain their confidence and trust in its ability to uphold the integrity of the electoral process. “We entreat citizens to remain steadfast and repose their confidence and trust in the Commission to deliver on its mandate,” the statement read.
This clarification comes amidst preparations for the upcoming elections, as the commission works diligently to ensure all systems are in place for a smooth and fair voting process across the country. The Electoral Commission remains committed to transparency and accuracy in all aspects of its operations.
