Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, on Friday, met Vice-Chancellors of all public universities in the country to discuss the ongoing University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) strike action.

The meeting, which was also attended by the Deputy Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Mr Wireko Brobbey was to share ideas and see the way forward to end the strike.

Speaking at the meeting, Dr Adutwum assured the nation that the government is doing everything possible to end the strike.

The Education Minister assured that the government has not gone to sleep over the strike but is doing everything possible to meet with the leadership of UTAG and other stakeholders to address the impasse.

He was upbeat that with the effort being made by the government and other stakeholders, the strike action will soon come to an end.

Background

It would be recalled that UTAG on January 10, 2022, withdrew their services due to poor condition of service.

This has led to many Ghanaians especially parents, students and Civil Society Organizations calling on the government and all stakeholders to redouble their effort at resolving the issue to ensure academic work resumes.

An Accra High Court (Labour Division) recently asked the leadership of the National Labour Commission (NLC) and the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) to settle the impasse between them out of court and report back by 10th February.
