The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG), has announced its decision to embark on an indefinite strike effective Thursday, January 2, 2025.

The declaration follows an Emergency National Council meeting of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association held on Monday, December 30, 2024.

In a statement issued on December, 31, CETAG explained that this decision follows earlier notices of strike served on September 26, 2024, and December 23, 2024, of which the National Labour Commission (NLC) failed to address the concerns raised.

CETAG said this action has become necessary due to the government’s continuous violation of signed agreements and roadmaps on the outstanding compulsory arbitration award issued by the NLC on May 2, 2023.

“The National Council of CETAG wishes to state unequivocally that members of the union shall not under any circumstance return to the colleges to undertake any official duties including teaching, and supervision of project work and macro-teaching, until the last pesewa is paid into our accounts. This declaration of an indefinite strike action is in accordance with section 159 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651).”
