“It was difficult at my time because SHS was not free. Parents had to pay. My step dad had to take a loan to pay my fees and even with that, it was not enough. Some rich men had no cause than to contribute to make it possible for me to pay my admission and in my final year, it was collapsing and the old man told me it will be difficult for me to complete. Luckily, Paa Kwesi Nduom set up a competition for the best student in literature and government, for whoever will be able to take the overall best student will get that chance. For me, it was a challenge, I either make it or forget about secondary school. By the grace of God, I made it, I benefitted from that challenge and that made me to pay for my registration fees, and my final year fees so I was able to complete my secondary school.
He added, “I say this to you today who is coming from a poor home that you are privilege, your parents only have to contribute some other things, for you to enjoy FREE SHS. After school when I started my political journey, I met a young man who had an excellent grade but wasn’t able to attend secondary school because of monetary issues, today you’re here and enjoying FREE SHS, make the good use of it, though there might be limited resources but still make good use of it. On my part, I will do what I have to do for this great constituency, I have heard from the headmaster, I want to assure you that, the challenges enumerated will be on my mind for solution and you will never walk alone.”
