The chiefs and religious leaders in the Afram Plains of the Eastern Region have resolved to change their voting pattern on December 7, 2024.
They expressed dissatisfaction with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which they have consistently supported but believe has done little to improve their living conditions.
In contrast, they praised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its strong commitment to addressing their developmental needs, despite the party receiving unfavourable electoral results in the past.
At a durbar in Donkorkrom on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, which brought together chiefs, religious leaders, representatives of various groups, and community leaders, Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and his campaign team were warmly received.
The leaders, including Nana Akuamoa Boateng Tano II, chief of Atakora, Alhaji Fuseini Osman, Chief Imam of Donkorkrom, and Rev. Dr. Caleb Daribi, Chairman of the Local Council of Churches in Afram Plains, highlighted the NPP’s achievements in the area.
They pointed to various social interventions and infrastructure projects initiated by the NPP, surpassing what the NDC had delivered, despite the community’s loyalty to the latter for over three decades.
The leaders expressed their gratitude to the NPP, specifically citing projects like the digitization of public services, free SHS, NHIS, Agenda 111 hospital initiative, electricity extension projects, ongoing road construction, and the delivery of District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP) machines to enhance their roads.
They urged their people to vote massively for the NPP’s Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the party’s Parliamentary Candidates for Afram Plains North and South Constituencies, Hon. Asiamah Anim and Hon. Jacob Zineyele, to continue the good work.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh, the NPP’s Vice Presidential Candidate, used the platform to debunk claims made by the NDC MP for Afram Plains North, who alleged that her share of the common funds was used to procure the DRIP machines.
He dismissed this claim, explaining that even 20 years of the MP’s common fund allocation wouldn’t be enough to buy a single machine.
Napo, as he is popularly known, also recalled his tenure as Energy Minister, during which he extended electricity to 35 communities in Afram Plains and oversaw other key projects.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh urged the people of Afram Plains to vote for the NPP in the upcoming election, reminding them that despite 32 years of voting for the NDC, their communities had little to show for it.
He reassured them that the NPP would not disappoint.
