Energy Minister John Jinapor has formally requested the Attorney General to lead a critical investigation into the disappearance of over 1,300 ECG containers from Tema Port.

The move comes as the government intensifies efforts to uncover the truth behind the scandal that has raised alarm about mismanagement and possible corruption in the energy sector.

“We’ve written to the Attorney General to conduct further investigation with the possibility of taking culprits to court,” Jinapor told journalists in Accra.

This development highlights the government’s commitment to ensuring that those responsible for the missing containers are held legally accountable.

In addition to seeking the Attorney General’s involvement, Jinapor disclosed that the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) has been tasked with investigating the whereabouts of the containers.

“We’ve also written to NIB to institute proper investigation to determine the whereabouts of the containers,” he stated, underscoring the need for a thorough inquiry.

Furthermore, to prevent any further losses, Jinapor revealed that he had personally reached out to the National Security Secretariat to secure the remaining containers.

“I have also personally written to the National Security Secretariat to help us secure the remaining containers so that we can do a proper reconciliation of the containers,” he said.

Meanwhile, the National Security has arrested additional individuals, bringing the total number of suspects arrested to 14 in connection with the missing Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers at the Tema Port.

This follows the arrest of twelve (12) Chinese nationals and a Ghanaian by operatives of National Security on March 27.

The Secretariat strongly indicated that it will continue to pursue the perpetrators responsible for the disappearance of over 1,300 containers of cables belonging to the ECG from the Tema port.

The Director of Investigations at the National Security Council Secretariat, Chief Superintendent Osman Alhassan, made these revelation during a tour of some aluminum smelting companies near Shai Hills, which were identified for melting the stolen cables into aluminium rods for export.
