An extremely busy Premier League summer transfer window has now set a record with a week to spare.

The figure is also higher than Premier League clubs spent all of last season ($1.7B). The full-season spending record was set in 2017-18 with approximately $2.2 billion.

Thus far, the biggest move of the summer was made by Liverpool, who signed Darwin Nunez from Benfica for a fee that could top $100.6 million.

Manchester United’s acquisition of Casemiro from Real Madrid for $71 million (and up to $82.8M) is second, while the blockbuster $60.6 million transfer of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City comes in at third.

Chelsea were one of the biggest spenders after their highly publicized change in ownership acquring the services of Marc Cucurella ($74.6M, from Brighton), Raheem Sterling ($59.2M, from Manchester City) and Kalidou Koulibaly ($40.2M, from Napoli)

First-place Arsenal do not appear on the top spenders list until the $53.2 million transfer of Gabriel Jesus from Man City.

Many of these clubs will be hoping their new prizes can help them in European competition.

On Thursday, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur learned who they will play in the UEFA Champions League group stage via the UCL draw as the new European season beckons.

It so unclear whether the spending rise with Manchester United chasing after Anthony which is reported to be around £100m as the summer transfer window closes on Sept. 1, 2022.
