#FixTheCountry Movement has accused the Ghana Police Service of dishonesty following a statement issued to explain circumstances that led to its leader convener, Oliver Barker-Vormawor being kept in custody despite meeting his bail conditions on Wednesday.
According to the Pressure Group, the Police had no intention of releasing Vormawor yesterday and claimed they were waiting for instruction from the IGP who is in possession of the complaint case.
The Police, it said, misled the public with its statements adding, “The truth is that as of 1:00 pm Wednesday, formal processes pertaining to the bail had already been concluded with eminent professors who had come to stand surety for Oliver.”
A statement issued by the group indicated Barker-Vormawor only went on hunger strike when the police refused to send him back to court for the processes to complete.
“Oliver also indicated to the police that he will no longer receive any visitors, including family or lawyers until the Police begin to show some respect for our democracy by acting as an institution guided by law,” the statement said.
