The government has refuted allegations by former President John Mahama that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s recent commentary and engagement with the United States have caused diplomatic tension between Ghana and Burkina Faso.
A statement issued on August 10 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, described Mahama’s claims as “wholly unfounded” and lacking substantial evidence.
The NDC flagbearer made the claims during a media interaction in the Upper East Region.
The statement emphasized that Ghana’s diplomatic relations with Burkina Faso remain strong and cooperative.
“The Ministry respectfully refutes the allegations made by the Former President regarding the purported strained relations between our country and the Republic of Burkina Faso. Such claims of ‘diplomatic tension’ are wholly unfounded and lack any substantial evidence or merit,” the statement read.
