Renowned heart surgeon and former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, is on GH¢2M bail after his arrest by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
He was arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation into work by the dissolved Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) which he chaired.
The OSP had earlier invited the Professor, leading to his subsequent arrest.
Professor Frimpong-Boateng said no specific charges were levelled against him except the OSP said that they were investigating corruption and corruption-related activities of the Inter-Ministerial Committee which he chaired.
“I was asked a number of questions for about two hours and after that, I was told I needed to be bailed. So a friend of mine bailed me and they went to his house to see where he was staying so in case I absconded they will get somebody to apprehend.”
