The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to dismiss Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame and initiate legal proceedings against him, warning that a future NDC government will pursue prosecution if these actions are not taken.
The NDC outlined several demands in response to what they described as “scandalous” evidence of misconduct by Dame in the infamous ambulance case.
Chairman of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia who addressed a press conference on Tuesday, May 28 on what he claims are unprofessional and criminal conduct by the Attorney General in the ambulance case called for the immediate and unconditional resignation or dismissal of Godfred Dame, asserting that he has brought the office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice into disrepute.
“Clearly, Mr. Dame is not fit to hold himself out as Attorney General and Minister of Justice. He is unfit to be the Leader of the Ghanaian Bar,” he said.
The NDC also called on the General Legal Council to commence disciplinary proceedings against Dame, including his disbarment for conduct unbecoming of a lawyer and leader of the Ghana Bar.
The NDC presented what they claimed to be incontrovertible evidence, alleging that the government’s case against the Minority Leader is baseless and fabricated as retribution for his opposition to the current administration’s economic policies.
“Godfred Dame has brought shame and disrepute to the honourable office of the Attorney General with his criminal, devious, and vicious conduct. He is a danger to fairness and justice in our judicial system and represents the lowest point in the history of persons who have occupied this office,” the statement asserted.
The NDC emphasized that the Attorney General’s primary responsibility is to uphold the rule of law impartially and advise the government accordingly. They criticized Dame for prioritizing party interests over the national interest, stating, “Mr. Dame has demonstrated time without number that he cannot prioritize the national interest over his party’s parochial and self-serving interests. He must therefore resign or be sacked by the President without delay.”
