The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ga-Dangme Caucus has commended former President John Dramani Mahama for his decision to set up a commission to investigate looted state lands.

According to the Caucus, the former President’s pledge on the matter is a welcome promise.

Mr. John Mahama during his acceptance speech, following his victory in the NDC presidential primary indicated his intention to set up a commission to investigate and make appropriate recommendations on the vexed issue of state land looting with emphasis on Ga-Dangme lands.

In a statement, the Chairman of the caucus, Danny Anang lamented the compulsory acquisition and expropriation of lands in the Greater Accra Region by the government over the years has eroded the inalienable rights of land ownership of the Ga Dangme people.

“Even more disappointing, and terribly baffling, is the awful spectacle of NPP government officials and their corresponding attendees and party apparatchiks, busily grabbing and looting Ga State lands with careless abundance.”

“This situation could best be described as a gross betrayal of stewardship and a grievous threat to our very survival as Ga-Dangme indigenes,” the statement said.

It stressed that against this background, Mr. Mahama’s commitment to deal comprehensively with the issue has hit the right chord and resonated with our singular quest for justice.

“We wholeheartedly commend our Presidential Flagbearer for this and assure him of our unwavering support, come the 2024 general elections, to see the full realization of this initiative,” the statement added.
