The 2022 Ga Mantse Cup will see Accra Hearts of Oak take on Accra Great Olympics at the Accra Sports Stadium on August 7 at 3pm.
The one-off cup match which is initiated by the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, forms part of the Homowo festival celebrations and is aimed at bringing the Ga community together, through football.
With a trophy at stake, Hearts of Oak will be looking to get revenge on Great Olympics after two defeats in the just-ended Ghana Premier League.
Larry Opare-Otoo, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Primeval Media, who are the organisers of the Ga Mantse Cup, spoke to Citi Sports about the importance of the match.
“The motive behind the cup is to bring the Ga Adangbe community together through football,” he said.
“The Ga Mantse Cup used to be played some years back but it has not been played for some time, so the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, decided that it was time to bring it back.
“He wants to use the Ga Mantse Cup to help the juvenile teams in the Ga Adangbe community and the juvenile coaches. He also wants to have a juvenile team.”
Opare-Otto also revealed that fans who buy tickets to watch the game will get a chance to watch Ghana at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“The tickets will give you the opportunity to go to Qatar to watch the World Cup, and this is coming from the Ga Mantse as a homowo bonanza he wants to give to the fans,” he added.
