The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has begun a three-day capacity building course for female Division One League (DOL) Administrators at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, Prampram.

The training, under the guidance of world football body, FIFA seeks to enhance leadership, strategic planning, communication, and marketing skills in Women’s football.

It also formed part of GFA’s efforts to develop women’s football at the grassroots level, under its four-year development pathway for Women’s football across the country.

Madam Thubaelihle Bridgette Sibanda, FIFA Technical Expert speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports said the workshop was part of the long list of strategies lined up to empower administrators to build the business side of football.

She said Africa had quality players to compete at top level football but lacked the fundamentals in making the dream possible.

“The strategic plan between the GFA and FIFA seeks to strengthen the women’s game here in terms of competition and how to grow it awareness more, branding and many others”, she said.

She said FIFA would in the coming days introduce the women’s football campaign and the league development program to help in the growth of the game.

The FIFA Technical Expert said Ghana was one of the outstanding countries in terms of women’s football across the world and needed to strengthen its grassroots to get back on track.

Madam Jennifer Amakwa Sarpong, Head of Women’s Football Development at GFA revealed that the decision to organize the capacity building course was championed by leadership of the association.

She said the GFA, as part of its long-term developmental plan aimed at developing leagues and building grassroot football to suit its football for girls project.

“We have also collaborated with the Ghana Education Service to engage basic school girls to inspire and empower them to play football,” She said.

Madam Sarpong said the GFA would introduce a football festival at various districts who would form regional teams to compete in FIFA’s elite U-15 championship.

The Ghana Football Association in 2023, launched a three-year Women’s Football Strategy to give females the needed support in their careers.

The project, championed by the technical directorate of the football body focused on Grassroot development, Talent Identification, Marketing and Sponsorship, National Teams Enhancement, League Development, and Education.
