The police in Assin North Constituency have arrested a man dressed in military uniform and said to be with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
He was arrested after suspicions were raised about his behaviour.
The military impostor had some weapons on him when he was arrested, mypublisher24.com can report.
He was whisked away by the police after the arrest.
The presence of security officials in Assin North has been heavy as a result of the ongoing by-election.
The Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery has said the directive which was issued by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare to the bodyguards of Members of Parliament (MPs) on carrying weapons in Assin North is part of the Police’s operations.
He said Ghana has a professional Police service with a professional IGP leading it.
Meanwhile, voting is underway as three political parties – New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) – have presented candidates to battle it out for the Assin North Parliamentary seat today.
The seat became vacant after the Supreme Court on Wednesday, May 17, unanimously declared unconstitutional the election of James Gyakye Quayson as the MP for the area.
The highly anticipated by-election was however necessitated after Parliament wrote to the Electoral Commission declaring the seat vacant.
The two major political parties; NPP and NDC have since thronged the constituency to sway voters to their side in order to win the seat and bolster their numbers in the legislature.
