The Ghana Army has issued a warning in a firm response to recent viral videos circulating on social media urging attacks on soldiers and security personnel.
The Army denounced such incitement as both unlawful and perilous to the nation’s security.
Director General of Public Relations for the Armed Forces (GAF) Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, in a statement, emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “Such calls for violence against our soldiers pose a significant threat to the security and stability of our nation. We strongly condemn any form of incitement or encouragement of violence against our soldiers.
The Armed Forces, he said, is committed to safeguarding the nation’s security while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and respect for human rights.
“Personnel of GAF and sister security agencies are dedicated to maintaining professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights in the execution of their duties.”
“Soldiers, like other individuals, have the right to self-defence when confronted with immediate threats or acts of violence. However, the outcome of such confrontations may be dire,” the Director General cautioned.
The GAF stressed the severity of assaulting or attacking soldiers, reminding the public that such actions are punishable by law.
Brigadier General Aggrey-Quashie implored citizens to respect, cooperate with, and support soldiers, urging them to refrain from engaging in violence or incitement against security personnel.
The army reiterated its commitment to professionalism, integrity, and service to the nation, inviting the public to channel concerns or grievances through the Department of Public Relations.
“We will continue to cooperate with sister security agencies to protect and defend Ghana’s interests while respecting the rights and dignity of all citizens,” Brigadier General Aggrey-Quashie affirmed.
