Ghana Athletics Vice President, Charles Osei Asibey, has stated that Team Ghana’s performance at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris is the result of what the nation has invested in athletes over the years.

In the lead up to the final phase of the Olympics, Ghana is yet to make it to the final of any event the country had representation in.

Ghana missed out on a final appearance in swimming, high jump and 100 Metre Men’s events respectively. The nation’s last hope of a final appearance and potentially a medal win lies with Ghana’s 4×100 Metre Relay Team that competes on Thursday, August 8 at 9:35 GMT.

The disappointing performance so far from Team Ghana, according to Osei Asibey, is down to the low level of investment in Ghanaian athletes.

“I don’t think it’s [our performance] been bad. I must confess it is the result of what we have invested. I feel that if we had done more, we would have come better. I have always said that preparation should have started four years ago. As a federation, we did our best and the results we saw is the investments we made as a country.”

Ghana is in Lane 3 of the 4×100 Metre semifinals and will run against the likes of China, France and Jamaica.
