Ghana, Namibia Strengthen Ties To Address Security Threats

Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister For Foreign Affairs And Regional Integration has revealed that the Government of Ghana is looking forward to continued collaboration with Namibia at the multilateral level, to address the security threats that confront our region and globally.

She said Ghana also welcome the decision to activate the mechanism for Political Consultations, as it will enable both countries to take stock of its bilateral relations more frequently and ensure the implementation of the Agreed Minutes, the signed Agreements and the MOUs.

In a closing remark at the Ministerial Segment Of The 4th Session Of Ghana-Namibia Permanent Joint Commission For Cooperation (PJCC) In Accra, the Minister For Foreign Affairs And Regional Integration noted that the two countries “have reviewed thoroughly our past cooperation and have discussed ways to expand future cooperation in a manner that will inure to the benefit of our two countries and Africa at large.”

She noted that as captured in the Report, the deliberations focused on 3 main thematic areas namely, Infrastructure & Economic Matters, Socio-Cultural Matters and Political and Diplomacy.

The discussions under these themes, Ms. Ayorkor Botchwey said focused on agriculture, poverty eradication and social welfare, narcotics control, tourism, youth and sports, Gender and Disability issues, Air transport and shipping, fisheries and aqua-culture, trade and industry.

Other topics the Minister stated were Migration and diaspora issues, health, nuclear education and training, security issues, infrastructure and economic matters.

She explained that these cover important sectors in the two economies and Ghana welcomes the prioritizing of the implementation of the various decisions, which have been taken in these focus areas.
