The Ghana Police Service has successfully restored calm in Ejura following a mob attack on the Ejura Police Station in the early hours of Saturday, January 11, 2025.
The incident began on Friday, January 10, 2025, around 10:00 pm, when the Police arrested a suspect for alleged theft. The suspect was detained in custody pending further investigations.
At approximately 2:20 am on Saturday, the suspect complained of feeling unwell and was promptly taken to the Ejura Government Hospital for medical attention. Tragically, he passed away while receiving treatment.
As preparations were being made to transfer the deceased’s body to the morgue for preservation and autopsy, members of the Ejura community launched an attack on the police station, setting parts of it ablaze.
A section of the mob also stormed the hospital and forcibly took the suspect’s body.
The Police in a brief statement noted that with the assistance of local opinion leaders, worked to de-escalate tensions and restore order. Their efforts ensured that no casualties were recorded during the unrest. Later, the military joined the Police to maintain law and order in the area.
The Ghana National Fire Service was also deployed to extinguish the blaze at the police station.
Investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for the attack, and the Police have assured the public of their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the community.
