Ghanaian broadcaster and creative entrepreneur, Kofi Okyere Darko has refuted speculations that he might have an interest for a political position if the National Democratic Congress (NDC), wins power in this year’s election.

Quelling speculations of his possible aspiration for a political appointment should the NDC takes the reins of government, KOD said his basic priority to make sure John Mahama wins power.

“I am not looking at that at all. For me essentially I want this government and John Mahama re-instated as the President of the Republic,” he noted.

He made this comment when he spoke to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM‘s Showbiz A-Z, detailing his inspiration for endorsing the NDC Presidential Candidate John Dramani Mahama and his political ambitions.

Asked if he only endorsed the NDC or he was an NDC member, KOD said “it was more of an endorsement but if you saw the fugu that I was wearing…,” he quipped.

“That’s why I gave the preamble and my track record and background with the party. I was supposed to be NDC. I’ve worked at Radio Gold for God sake. I mean no one was hired on political basis for getting a job at Radio Gold. It never happened. But somehow, you get to understand how things work in that space,” he said.

The celebrated master of ceremonies and the founder of Nineteen57 fashion company also stated that he has not considered getting into mainstream politics yet.

“It’s not an area I have critically thought of. But I mean we’ve always served for what we do in the creative space. We are public servants as well so if I have to serve in that space, why not,” he said.

Kofi Okyere Darko publicly declared his support for John Mahama on July 27, 2024 during the NDC’s 2024 official campaign launch in Tamale.

“Today, I stand in front of you as Ghanaians with the strong conviction that we need that change that we have been yearning for, and that is why I stand today to endorse His Excellency John Dramani Mahama as the next President of the Republic of Ghana.”

The media personality said that he had always rooted for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2007 and 2015 but he lost hope when the NPP failed to keep their promises.
