Gideon Nii Tettey Tetteh, Esq, the Executive Director of STRANEK-Africa has expressed concern over the alleged disruptions of internet services in the country in the lead up to the December general elections.
He noted that over the last few months, consumers have complained about poor quality of service-related network and internet disruptions.
According to the Senior Lawyer, the National Communications Authority, the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization and the Chamber of Telecommunications have failed, neglected and refused to explain to Ghanaians what is responsible for this situation.
“STRANEK-Africa is deeply concerned about this development given the adverse effects of the 2023 internet disruptions that affected citizens and businesses in Ghana and other parts of African and Europe” a statement issued in Accra on Wednesday stated.
It continued: “As we approach elections, we are demanding answers from duty bearers as to what accounts for the current disruptions in network and internet. Could this be a dress rehearsal for internet blackout on Election Day so that citizens will think it’s normal? “
