President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has commended the Church of Pentecost for its efforts in promoting national development and reshaping the country’s moral vision.
He emphasized the vital role of the Church in shaping the moral vision of the nation and its active participation in national development processes.
He urged leaders of the Church and other faith-based organizations to use their platforms to promote virtues and address issues of corruption, injustice, human rights abuses, and other vices in society.
In a speech he delivered at the National Development Conference organized by the Church of Pentecost at the Pentecost Convention Centre on July 26, 2023, the GJA President hailed the Church of Pentecost’s commitment to playing an active role in addressing societal challenges, positioning it as a vital contributor to national development.
The theme of the conference, “Moral vision and national development,” resonated with attendees, reflecting the urgent need to tackle moral decay and drive development initiatives in Ghana.
Dwumfour expressed concern over issues such as corruption, indiscipline, impunity, and greed that plague the nation, stating, “In discernment, we firmly hold that the nation’s moral fabric is fast decaying, and the consequence thereof is an erosion of national development.”
He called for a renewal of Ghana’s moral awareness and vision to address these pressing challenges.
Dwumfour assured the nation that the media would continue to play a positive role in renewing the country’s moral vision and promoting development.
And he called on media practitioners to be responsible and rise to the challenge of effectively discharging their duties.
While recognizing the media’s role in exposing corruption and societal ills, Dwumfour stressed that resorting to assault as a means to resolve grievances against media reports is unacceptable under the rule of law.
He called on all stakeholders, including the Executive, Parliament, and the Judiciary, to support the media’s mandate and condemn attacks on journalists and press freedom.
Expressing gratitude to the Church of Pentecost for his moral upbringing and discipline, Dwumfour acknowledged his affiliation with the Church, attributing his leadership position within the GJA to the values instilled in him by the Church.
The GJA President pledged the collaboration of the media fraternity in Ghana to promote the nation’s moral vision and development.
Apostle Chairman Eric Nyamekye, the leader of the Church of Pentecost, received accolades for organizing the conference, which brought together key stakeholders to deliberate on the nation’s moral values and development agenda.
Dwumfour recognized the Church as an institution that operates with both faith and action, comparing it to the media, which holds a significant role in the governance structure.
The Church of Pentecost’s National Development Conference received widespread acclaim for its efforts to engage stakeholders and drive conversations on national development and moral values in Ghana.
