GOING IN GOD’S POWER
Scripture Reading: Exodus 4
Now the Lord said to Moses in Midian, “Go, return to Egypt; for all the men who sought your life are dead.” Then Moses took his wife and his sons and set them on a donkey, and he returned to the land of Egypt. And Moses took the rod of God in his hand. Exodus 4:19-20
Moses fled Egypt, forty years earlier as a wanted man. He had betrayed the house of Pharaoh and provoked their rage against him. One of the reasons why Moses had stayed for so long outside of Egypt was that he was not certain of the reception awaiting him if he should return.
The Lord sensed Moses’ concerns and guaranteed him of safe passage. The Lord assured Moses that He had already started the process of liberation.
1. All the men who sought your life are dead. What words of relief for Moses! He had been haunted by certain people and faces. For forty years, he might have had nightmares with those faces pursuing him. The Lord woke him up from his nightmare and calmed all his fears. He assured him that those who sought to harm him were no more. We serve a God who is able to face those we cannot face.
After Moses heard that those seeking for him were no more, he got his wife and children ready and set out for Egypt.
2. Moses took the rod of God in his hand. The rod of the shepherd became the rod of God. The Lord took what was in Moses’ hand and made it His own. Our Lord is able to use the ordinary things in our hands to accomplish His extraordinary purposes.
Anyone who saw Moses with his shepherd’s rod would take him for a typical sheep herder. They would not know the power Moses was carrying. Similarly, a spirit-filled child of God going about his or her life would look like any other man or woman about town. However, every child of God carries divine power in their spirits. Moses carried the power in his hand; we carry power in our hearts.
Don’t ever underestimate the power you carry.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, lead me in the power of your Holy Spirit. Take what is mine and use it as your own. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
