I’ve just seen the Member of Parliament for Ketu South, Dzifa Gomashie in a Ghanaweb headline desperately running ahead of herself and accusing President Akufo-Addo of neglecting the victims of the Volta River Authority(VRA) spillage which has wrecked massive havoc in the three Tongu constituencies in the Volta Region.

These are the words of Dzifa Gomashie on Class FM sourced and published on Ghanaweb:

“President Akufo-Addo has failed to respond to the flooding of our communities and I am very disappointed over his apparent lack of empathy towards us. This government is treating the people of the Volta Region as if we are not Ghanaians. What is so shameful is the fact that the President was quick to tweet his condolences to the King of Morocco regarding an earthquake in the country. It is distressing, I must say this”

I honestly despair at the rhetoric of Dzifa Gomashie.

Is it just a distinct sign of massive desperation or this woman simply has no shame?

President Akufo-Addo on his tour of the affected areas of the VRA spillage spoke as a leader and unifier, and any dispassionate political watcher would agree with me that his speech was premised on the salient issues, and also addressed the misconceptions that the likes of Dzifa Gomashie are spouting.

In fact, President Akufo-Addo alleyed the fears of the people and assured them of the government’s responsibility towards them.

He told them his government will never abandon their needs and went on to draw attention to the fact that he is the president of all Ghanaians.

So, how does the President’s action amounts to lack of empathy towards the people of the Volta Region?

Dzifa Gomashie was given an opportunity to speak on a disaster that has ravaged her people, but she should have announced she had some important constituency business and scarpered instead of raving unconvincingly in the hope of seeming enthused.

How this woman was ever elected Member of Parliament is beyond comprehension.

Indeed, her lack of critical thinking skills seems to have surpassed all.

And like Lady Macbeth manipulated her husband Macbeth by speaking of his manhood in the Shakespearean politics, Dzifa Gomashie seems to be at her manipulative best in this unfortunate episode of the VRA spillage and the ensuing wreckage.
