The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations has directed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to take immediate enforcement action against several broadcasting entities operating without valid frequency authorizations.
A statement issued on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, revealed that six radio stations, including Fire Group of Companies (Sunyani), I-Zar Consult Limited (Tamale), Abochannel Media Group (Adidome), Okyeame Radio Limited (Bibiani), Mumen Bono Foundation (Techiman), and Osikani Community FM (Nkrankwanta), have been found in violation of Section 2(4) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775).
The affected entities were cited for failing to renew their authorizations, fulfil statutory payment obligations, or submit required documentation within the stipulated timeframe. As a result, their licenses lapsed, making their continued operations unlawful.
“It is unlawful to operate a broadcasting service without a valid frequency authorization,” the statement emphasized, warning that the NCA would take all necessary steps to halt unauthorized transmissions.
The Ministry stressed that this action is part of a broader effort to ensure compliance within Ghana’s broadcasting sector and urged all frequency authorization holders to strictly adhere to regulations.
“The review of the frequency authorization audit is ongoing, and further directives will be issued in due course,” the statement added.
The crackdown signals the government’s zero-tolerance approach to illegal broadcasting and serves as a warning to other non-compliant operators across the country.
