President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the government is unwavering in finding solutions to the myriad of problems bedeviling Ghana’s education system.
He said the surest tool of fighting poverty, ignorance, disease and any other such challenges confronting the nation is by means of education and the government of the day is focused on providing the needed environment for the attainment of this objective.
President Akufo-Addo stated that to achieve this goal, “We cannot talk about quality education without the teacher at the center of education.”
The president made the disclosure in a message read on his behalf by Yaw Osafo-Maafo, the Senior Presidential Advisor at the 75th anniversary of the E. P College of Education in the Volta Region.
Mr. Osafo-Maafo stressed “The government is unwavering in ensuring that the allocation to Colleges of Education in Ghana is equally distributed among all the Colleges in the country.”
He stated that over the past 75 years, AMECO has lived up to its responsibilities as one of the outstanding teacher training Colleges in this part of the country and the only one in the Ho West District.
“Indeed, the College over the years, distinguished itself as a pioneer in providing quality teacher education with its alumni found in every region and in almost every industry in Ghana. These alumni are all over the country, successful in every endeavor, is further attesting to the enviable status and stature of the College” the Senior Presidential Advisor noted.
Mr Osafo-Maafo indicated that “I wish to echo the commitment of government to continue to establish the needed partnership with all the 46 Colleges of Education to provide and discover solutions to the barrage of challenges confronting the educational system in Ghana.”
The former Finance Minister maintained that it is the aspiration of government that the Colleges of Education and in this case E. P. College of Education, Amedzofe to find innovative and effective strategies that link academia to industries to come out with practical solutions that address real life problems in the educational sector.
He said it is not possible to confront the challenges in the educational sector and improve quality teacher education without research and that the Management of the College has taken proactive steps to build the capacity of staff in the areas of research, adding “I encourage staff to take these programmes seriously and come out with research that seeks to address the challenges confronting our nation.”
“I have taken notice of the numerous challenges confronting the College in terms of not have a befitting auditorium, accommodation for staff and students and the completion of the abandoned 4-storey female hostel started in 2010 and funded by GETFUND. Let me assure you that the Nana Addo led administration has AMECO on its priority list to address the accommodation and many other challenges confronting the College” Mr Osafo-Maafo assured.
As a 75th anniversary birthday gift, a 65-seater brand new bus has been allocated to the College.
The 75th anniversary was on the theme: “Restoring the past Glory: Repositioning AMECO as a strategic partner in quality teacher education delivery in the 21st Century”.
