The Office of the President has reaffirmed its policy barring outgoing Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, and other political appointees from acquiring government vehicles at the end of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration.
This directive, first introduced at the end of the President’s first term in 2020, remains unchanged as his second and final term draws to a close.
In a statement issued by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the Presidency, the government emphasized that all official vehicles must be returned by appointees to the Chief Directors of their respective ministries by Friday, January 3, 2025.
“The President has reiterated that the practice of appointees acquiring official vehicles through valuation by the State Transport Company will not apply under his administration. This directive is a clear commitment to accountability and the prudent management of state resources,” the statement said.
Previous administrations allowed appointees to purchase one saloon vehicle at the end of their tenure. However, President Akufo-Addo has maintained a strict policy against such acquisitions throughout his presidency.
“This administration has been unwavering in its resolve to protect public resources and ensure the proper handling of state assets. We expect all appointees to comply with this directive without exception” said Eugene Arhin.
