The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) Secretariat has announced the immediate termination of contracts for all caterers under the national programme.

The decision, effective from May 2, 2025, halts food preparation for schoolchildren for the upcoming third term of the 2024/2025 academic year.

A formal notice issued by the GSFP Secretariat, signed by National Coordinator Hajia Fati Forgor, states: “Please be informed that contracts of all caterers of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) nationwide have been terminated with immediate effect.”

The statement emphasized that no caterer should continue operations into the new school term, and that outstanding arrears from the second term would be settled “in due course.”

According to the Secretariat, the move is part of a broader restructuring initiative aimed at reforming the feeding programme to improve efficiency and accountability.

“The GSFP Secretariat, as part of its ongoing restructuring exercise, will soon announce the modalities for the recruitment of new caterers for the Programme,” the letter added.

The Ghana School Feeding Programme was established as part of the country’s commitment to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, targeting hunger and extreme poverty among schoolchildren.

The programme, however, was marred by allegations of corruption under the previous administration, with funds intended for school feeding reportedly diverted into the pockets of individuals.
