The newly-elected Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson is expected to be sworn in tomorrow Friday June 30.
This was disclosed by the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Sammy Gyamfi.
He explained that as the law requires, the Electoral Commission (EC) will have to communicate the results of the by-election to Parliament for the next action to be taken.
The process of notifying Parliament, he said, is ongoing.
“As the law requires, the EC will have to formally communicate the results of the by-election by writ to the August House of Parliament,” he added.
During the by-election on Tuesday, June 27, Mr Gyakye Quayson beat Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) to reclaim the seat.
His votes margin as compared to the 2020 results is over 1,300. In that election, Mr Gyakye Quayson polled 17,498 votes to beat NPP’s Abena Durowaa Mensah, who polled 14,193.
Mr Gyakye Quayson, who was declared invalidly elected in 2020 by a Supreme Court judgement, will return to take his seat in Parliament.
