Asante Kotoko assistant coach Orlando Wellington feels cheated after his team lost at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday to Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League.
In a fiercely contested battle for supremacy in a league game that doubled as the President’s Cup, Kotoko fell again to the Phobians after Konadu Yiadom rose highest to connect Linda Mtange’s free-kick in the 57th minute.
Kotoko failed to level the scoreline after numerous attempts including an attack which in the dying embers of the game, saw the Porcupines protest for a penalty. That call was however denied by the referee who was close to the incident.
The former Black Satellites coach, on the other hand, believes while Konadu Yiadom’s goal shouldn’t have counted because the defender was offside, Kotoko deserved a penalty.
“Hearts of Oak’s goal against us was an offside. They scored an offside goal and the referee denied us a clear penalty,” said Wellington after the defeat.
Hearts of Oak who went on to lift the President’s Cup trophy after the final whistle have gotten back into the top four with 31 points. They are now above Kotoko on goal difference.
The Phobians will look to climb further up when they visit Bibiani to engage Gold Stars at the Duns Park on Sunday March 12.
