President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Herbert Krapa as the substantive Minister for Energy, effective Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
The announcement, made by the Director of Communications at the Office of the President, Eugene Arhin, in a statement on November 20, 2024, follows Mr. Krapa’s tenure as Minister of State at the Energy Ministry, a position he held since July 15, 2024.
The President lauded Mr. Krapa’s performance, citing his “exceptional diligence, professionalism, and steadfast commitment” as key factors in his appointment.
According to the statement, Mr. Krapa has significantly contributed to the progress and stability of Ghana’s energy sector.
“In recognition of his hard work and leadership, President Akufo-Addo is confident that Mr. Krapa will continue to distinguish himself in his new role, ensuring the continued growth and transformation of the energy sector in service to the nation,” the statement read.
He also served as the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry from 2021 to 2023 after being appointed as the Government Spokesperson on Governance and Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Information between 2018 and 2020.
Herbert Krapa was called to the Ghana Bar in 2017, with experience in Trade and Investment Law, Commercial Law, Debt Restructuring, among others.
He previously worked as a lawyer at Africa Legal Associates, a reputable law firm in Ghana.
Krapa holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Ghana and a Master of Laws Degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK where he specialised in International Finance, Secured Financing, International Commercial Arbitration and Corporate Crime.
He also holds a Master of Science Degree in Development Finance from the University of Ghana Business School and a Certificate in Human Rights Law from Fordham University in New York.
