Speaking to journalists, the Okaikwei North MCE stated that the Municipality is expected to plant five hundred trees to mark the day and some ten million trees by the end of June 2024.

He said the weather was also apt for the national event which seeks to increase the vegetation of the entire country.

The Okaikwei North MCE stated that the event will among other reasons protect the environment and help mitigate the impact of climate change in Ghana.

Earlier, Honourable Laryea joined the Chief of Staff, Madam Frema Osei Opare and the students of Achimota School also in the Municipality to plant over twenty trees.

The event also saw the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Francis K. Mensah and other Departmental and Unit Heads of the Assembly planting various tree species to increase the vegetation of the Municipality.

Other personalities who planted trees to mark the day included the Achimota District Court Magistrate, His Worship Prince Owusu and Mrs. Eunice Yeboah Quaye, the Municipal Electoral Officer.

The 2024 edition of the programme was on the theme: “Growing for a Greener Tomorrow.”Since the inception of the Green Ghana Project, over 42 million trees have been planted, and the 2024 goal is to add another 10 million, bringing the total to 52 million trees in just four years.

This ambitious target aligns with Ghana’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 64 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent by 2030.
