The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central has issued an official apology to Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire, for mistakenly comparing him to Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to Isaac Adongo, since making that comparison, the Man United defender has improved significantly and has become a cornerstone in the United defense, even scoring goals for the team.
Adongo lamented that while the England international has become an asset to the Man United team, Ghana’s ‘Economic Maguire’ (Dr. Bawumia) has caused economic setbacks for Ghana and is now seeking a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
During the 2024 Budget debate in Parliament on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, the Ranking Member of the Finance Committee said, “Mr. Speaker, you might recall that last year I was quick to compare my big brother to Harry Maguire. Today, Maguire has turned the corner and has become a transformed footballer. He is now scoring goals and is a key player for Manchester United.”
He further stated, “As for our economic Maguire (Dr. Bawumia), he is now seeking a bailout from the IMF with a cup in hand and has even compelled pensioners to leave their homes to protest on the streets.”
Last year, during the 2023 Budget debate, the Bolgatanga Central MP drew similarities between England International and Ghana’s Vice President, and how poorly they performed their jobs.
He pointed out that while Harry Maguire gave passes to opponents and even scored against his club in the English Premier League, the Vice President dragged Ghana’s economy into the doldrums.
However, today, Harry has transformed and is shouldering the burden of Manchester United, while Dr. Bawumia has endorsed digitalisation and abandoned Ghana’s economy.
