Former President John Dramani Mahama says he feels vindicated by the atrocious performance of the current government but emphasized the importance of not gloating.

According to him, he has the right to feel vindicated but stressed the current economic challenge Ghanaians are going through does not make it appropriate to gloat and tell the government ‘I told you so.’

Speaking on the KSM Show with Kwaku Sintim-Misa on Pan African TV, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) recounted the challenges he faced during his presidency, especially in the lead-up to the 2016 general election.

He pointed out that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was so determined to dislodge the NDC from power, and resorted to spreading misinformation to tarnish his image.

He said, “They all proved not to be true, but at the time, it was difficult to dispel because they had a troll factory that was churning out all kinds of misinformation.”

Referring to his earlier statement about posterity being the judge of his time in office, President Mahama reiterated his belief that time would reveal the truth.

“Vindication lies in the womb of time. And with time, the truth would always come out,” he asserted.

Despite feeling vindicated by the lack of investigations into the allegations made against him after leaving office, President John Dramani emphasized that the current situation in the country is not conducive for gloating.

“I have the right to feel vindicated, just that the situation into which the NPP has plunged this country is not the time for gloating, and saying I told you so,” he stated.

He expressed concern about the state of the country under the current administration, especially about unemployment levels.

“Today, this is the highest level of unemployment in the history of Ghana.”

“At the time it was just say anything to come to power but unfortunately, they have created a crisis of confidence in the population in our democracy,” he remarked.

President Mahama stressed the need to rebuild confidence in Ghana’s democracy and convince citizens that democratic governance is the best way to unlock the nation’s potential and create prosperity for all.
