The incumbent Member of Parliament, Andrew Egyaper Mercer, has watered down the perceived threat posed by his contender in his bid for re-election as the parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Sekondi Constituency.
According to him, there is no doubt that delegates will reward him with a resounding victory on January 27, 2024.
Mr. Mercer has convinced the relationship he’s built with delegates over the years cannot be rivaled by what his contender, Benjamin Paa Kwesi Moses is promising. For him, there’s practically no threat in the contest ahead.
“They are my people. I’ve been with them through thick and thin over the years. I am not so sure he’s even attended constituency [party] meetings since I became MP. And so the delegates will decide. I am certain I will win hands-down,” he emphasized.
In his assessment, the focus going into the 2024 polls is on how the NPP gets to retain the parliamentary seat in Sekondi. He noted that delegates are particular about who can deliver on this objective, not mere political rhetoric.
“Of course, track record is an issue to contend with, and we have a battle to fight with the NDC in December. So they [delegates] know who can win the seat in Sekondi for the NPP.”
“My prayer is that the acrimony is minimized. The insults shouldn’t be part of the conversation. He can tell what he feels he’s capable of doing, and I will tell them what I have done and what it is that if I am made to continue, I can do… the greater opportunities that we can create for all of us.”
