Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has explained his bitterness stemming from the 2023 New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries.

While acknowledging Vice President Bawumia’s victory, Agyapong emphasized his hurt stemmed not from the outcome, but from the treatment he received from former friends within the party.

“It’s not every MP who didn’t vote for me that I’m angry at,” Agyapong clarified in an upcoming interview with Kwaku Sintim-Misa on Pan African Television. “No, everybody has a choice.”

He says his resentment, however, is focused on specific individuals.

“The very people who were my friends that I have helped to come to Parliament… It’s not the betrayal, but the bad things they said about me, that is where I have the problem.”

The outspoken MP expressed his deep-seated feeling of betrayal: “So who says I’m not bitter? I am bitter not because the vice-president won: I am bitter because the people that I have helped… the insults.”

Agyapong’s comments offer a glimpse into the internal dynamics of the NPP during the primaries and raise questions about potential fractures within the party. Whether this bitterness translates into future actions or remains a personal grievance remains to be seen.
