Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has expressed deep concerns about the state of Ghana’s democracy and the upcoming December 7, 2024 election.
In a statement on his Facebook page, the former President criticized the ‘incompetent governance’ of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia, emphasizing the urgent need for change.
“The actions and incompetent governance of Nana Akufo-Addo and Bawumia have completely eroded Ghana’s democratic goodwill. Political credibility is at an all-time low, never experienced in the history of the 4th Republic,” Mahama stated, reflecting the growing discontent among many Ghanaians.
With just 463 days remaining until the pivotal 2024 election, the former President stressed its significance in restoring faith in Ghana’s constitutional democracy.
He maintained that the current leadership must be held accountable for issues such as corruption and deteriorating conditions during their nearly seven-year tenure.
“We cannot ensure accountability with the same party and its officials who brought us to this tipping point still in charge,” Mahama asserted.
He offered a vision for a different future under his administration, stating, “Of course, I can assure you that the John Mahama administration from January 7, 2025, will be different. I promise visionary and selfless leadership and not the business-as-usual approach of the NPP.”
Mr. Mahama encouraged citizens to reflect on the state of their democracy and the critical role the 2024 election will play in shaping the nation’s future.
Apparently, the countdown to December 07, 2024, has begun, and many are eager to see how the political landscape will evolve in the coming months.
The former President’s message serves as a rallying cry for the NDC and all those seeking change and accountability in Ghana’s political arena.
With the promise of a ‘different’ leadership style, he aims to inspire hope and confidence in the electorate as the nation prepares for a historic decision.
