Member of Parliament (MP) for Juaboso, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, was involved in a near-fatal car accident while returning from his constituency on Saturday.
The Ranking Member on Parliament’s Health Committee was travelling in his official vehicle when a collision occurred on the outskirts of Atwima Mponua township, Nyinahin at about 6:05pm.
The accident took place when the MP’s vehicle, with registration number GN 441-14, collided head-on with an oncoming Kumasi-Sefwi Wiawso-bound Sprinter bus, registered as AS 7363-18.
According to reports, the MP’s driver attempted to overtake a vehicle ahead of them but tragically burst a tire on the passenger side of the front, causing the vehicle to veer into the lane of the oncoming bus.
The collision resulted in severe damage to both vehicles, leaving them mangled and many passengers on board the Sprinter bus with varying degrees of injuries. Prompt emergency responses from the Ambulance Service, police, and officers of the National Fire Service were crucial in rescuing and providing medical attention to those injured in the accident.
Among the injured, the Juaboso MP, his driver, and the security detail were in critical condition, necessitating their referral to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further medical care.
The news of the accident has sent shockwaves through the nation, with many expressing their concern and support for the injured MP and others affected by the tragic incident. The authorities are conducting investigations to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision.
