Other issues focused on during the exercise included inheritance and succession laws, Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms and fundamental human rights.

The exercise, to promote legal awareness and empower citizens, was aimed at bridging the knowledge gap between the Judiciary and members of the public, by educating citizens on critical legal issues affecting their daily lives.

Participants included representatives of local authorities, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organisations and some members of the public.

His Lordship Justice Richard Kogyapwah, the Supervising Judge of the Savannah Region, during the exercise, said it was to empower citizens with the knowledge necessary to navigate the legal system and maintain their rights.

He said it would also help strengthen public trust in the Judiciary, build confidence in the court, and bring the judicial system closer to the poor and marginalised.

He said “we believe that an informed citizenry is essential for the effective administration of justice. We will continue to engage with communities to promote legal awareness and access to justice for all”.

Participants expressed gratitude for the initiative, saying it had deepened their understanding of inheritance and succession law, and land acquisition processes.
