A cholera outbreak in the Awutu Senya East Municipality has claimed five lives, while 30 others remain hospitalized at the Kasoa Polyclinic and Mother and Child Hospital.

Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Anita Love Obo Amissah confirmed that three people died on Thursday, October 31, with two more fatalities recorded on Friday afternoon.

The MCE expressed deep concern over the spread of the disease and urged residents to remain vigilant by maintaining clean surroundings and practising good hygiene.

The MCE noted that neighbouring constituencies have also reported cases, including Awutu Senya West and Gomoa East.

“Five people have been confirmed dead after the outbreak. The Mother and Child Hospital and the Kasoa Polyclinic have done their best to manage the situation. What I want to ask from the people of Kasoa is to take good care of themselves by eating healthy food.”

“I understand the hospital has called back staff who were on leave to help deal with the issue. There have been referrals from Awutu Senya West and Gomoa East taking the total number of death to five. Thirty more people are still on admission as we speak,” she said.

Municipal Environmental Officer Godson Lodo issued preventive guidelines, urging market traders and food vendors to prioritize cleanliness.

“I want to get the market women to keep their environment clean and the same goes for food sellers to also ensure that the food they sell is hot all the time. We must also keep our environment clean as residents to avoid the spread,” he noted
