Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, is set to engage Members of Parliament in a critical meeting on Friday in preparation for the highly anticipated mid-year budget review.
This was disclosed by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K. Bagbin, during the session on Tuesday, July 25.
The meeting, a result of an agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the leadership of the House, aims to facilitate in-depth discussions and consultations with MPs regarding the upcoming mid-year review and any proposed supplementary budget.
Originally scheduled for July 25, 2023, the presentation of the 2023 Mid-Year Budget Review had to be rescheduled.
Parliament has now confirmed a new date for the event, which will take place on Monday, July 31, 2023.
The Mid-Year Budget Review, a requirement under Article 179 of the 1992 Constitution and the Public Financial Management Act 921 presents an opportunity to revise macroeconomic targets and offer a comprehensive economic outlook for the remainder of the fiscal year.
This will be the first major financial statement by the government since Ghana secured the $3 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) extended credit facility.
During the presentation, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is expected to update Parliament on the government’s actions to stabilize the economy following the IMF deal, providing insights into the nation’s financial outlook and measures for economic progress.
