Known critic of the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission, Professor Ransford Yaw Gyampo, has praised the Commission for saving the nation more money than the narrative out there that it is wasting money.

In a text message sent to Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo show on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, Professor Gyampo stated that Jean Mensa is rather saving the country much more resources than the general public is being made to believe.

Presidential Kufuor, echoes from the past

“Yesterday, I visited and had extensive conversation with Mrs Jean Mensa. It appears the EC is saving more than wasting, even to the displeasure of its staff. Indeed, there’s enough evidence to show that the cost of election in Ghana now, has reduced” the message partly indicated.

Though there is always the need to ensure accountability, he said that it must be done without demonizing the Commission.

“We must demand accountability and take the EC on to be sure it is working well in the interest of Ghanaians. But we must not  unnecessarily demonize them. Some of the issues can easily be clarified via simple phone call to them”

He admonished that the EC must still work on its relations with the opposition, endeavor to listen to them and stick to the rules at all times, for the sake of its own peace and the conduct of peaceful elections.

Professor Gyampo has been an ardent critic of the Electoral Commission over the years until he sought clarification from the Commission over all the raging matters surrounding BVDs, BVRs, costs of running elections, amongst other matters.
