The African University College of Communications (AUCC) has officially rebranded as the African University of Communications & Business (AUCB) in a landmark transition.
The announcement was made by the institution’s founder, Kojo Yankah, during a special ceremony on Thursday, February 13, 2025, marking the new phase of the university’s journey.
Originally established in 2002 as the African Institute of Journalism and accredited in 2004 as AUCC, the institution has grown into a beacon of higher learning.
Addressing an audience of staff, students, and dignitaries, Yankah reflected on the university’s journey, acknowledging both the triumphs and challenges along the way.
“We have come very far, straddling through rough and unfriendly terrains, and sometimes wondering if such a pioneering venture should continue. But we prevailed,” Yankah stated.
He expressed gratitude to faculty and staff, with special recognition for the Abeku Blankson-led team, whose efforts helped the institution secure a full-fledged university charter.
As AUCB embarks on its third phase, Yankah emphasized the importance of innovation, creativity, and a strong Afrocentric academic focus.
“Our courses should be more Afrocentric and liberating and give meaning to our chosen motto: Discover Yourself from Here,” he added.
AUCB aims to deepen research-based learning while equipping students with skills to transform and advance African societies.
The rebranding marks a significant step in the institution’s mission to shape future leaders grounded in Africa’s history, identity, and culture.
The event was attended by alumni, students, faculty, and supporters, all celebrating the new vision of AUCB and its commitment to an empowered African future.
