A former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress Koku Anyidoho has questioned the basis upon which the National Chairman of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia is saying that Ghanaians including members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are yearning to return former President John Dramani Mahama to office.
Mr Asiedu Nketia had expressed confidence former President John Dramani Mahama will win the 2024 elections.
According to him, the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has presented Ghanaians with options and the better is voting Mr Mahama back to power.
He said over the past couple of years some of the strongest critics of the NDC flagbearer during his term as president have apologised to him and that is about some of the strongest votes he could gain in 2024.
“Those who are talking today are the same people who condemned John Dramani Mahama and over the past two years, people are coming out to apologise,” the NDC National Chairman stated on TV3‘s Hot Issues on Sunday, November 5
“People are coming out to say that they were misled into believing in certain things and that is a stronger vote for President John Dramani Mahama.”
The NDC flagbearer is set to face Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in a landmark elections in 2024, all things being equal, after the latter was elected by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the weekend as its flagbearer
He polled 61.47 percent of the total valid votes cast to beat close contender Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and two others, former MPs, to win the presidential primaries.
In his victory speech, Dr Bawumia indicated that he has his own vision and priority and will take the concerns of Ghanaians very seriously.
He admitted that economic recovery is very much alive while GDP growth has also picked up.
But Mr Asiedu Nketia insisted that a lot of people have experienced the two governments and their choice is for his party’s candidate.
“They are saying that Nana Akufo-Addo’s performance is making John Mahama look like a saint.”
In a tweet, Koku Anyidoho said “Who told him that NPP people are clamoring for the return of John Mahama? You are busy destroying the NDC and you are depending on NPP votes to win? It just tells you he was hoping Ken would have caused an implosion on Saturday; no implosion & he is dazed by NPP Unity.”
