The Minister for Employment, Labour Relations, and Pensions, Hon. Ignatius Baffour Awuah, has announced an extension of the tenure of the Board of Trustees of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
The Board, whose term expired on August 9, 2024, will now serve until January 6, 2025.
This extension, approved under Section 35 (1) and (2) of the National Pensions Act, 2008 (Act 766), was disclosed during a meeting with the Board of Trustees on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the Ministry’s Conference Hall.
Explaining the decision, Hon. Baffour Awuah stated that retaining the current Board would ensure continuity and stability, rather than reconstituting a new team at this time.
He stressed that the extension aligns with the tenure of the President, ensuring a seamless transition.
The announcement reinforces the government’s commitment to maintaining effective governance at SSNIT during this critical period.
