Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, has dismissed allegations circulating on social media that she orchestrated the arrest of a University of Ghana security man for expressing a dissenting political opinion.
In a statement released on Friday, Hon. Lydia described the claims as “false and malicious propaganda” aimed at tarnishing her reputation.
These allegations, she said, are not only untrue but a calculated attempt to undermine her longstanding dedication to the University community.
Hon. Lydia emphasized her commitment to fairness and inclusivity, asserting that her engagements with the University community have never been influenced by political affiliations.
She said, “I have always been a compassionate and fair leader. My arms are open to all, and my commitment to serve transcends party lines.”
The MP also clarified the circumstances surrounding her recent meeting with campus security personnel, which she believes sparked the rumors.
According to her, the meeting was focused on understanding the challenges faced by security officers and providing resources to enhance campus safety ahead of the upcoming elections.
The engagement, she said, reflects her continued investment in the security of students.
“From providing vehicles and motorbikes to enhancing the visibility of security personnel, to installing streetlights in dark and obscure places to prevent crime, my actions speak louder than these baseless allegations,” she stated.
Hon. Lydia reiterated her dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of the University community.
“Students, you are the heart of this great institution. I see your concerns, value your aspirations, and remain committed to creating an environment where you can thrive without fear or insecurity,” she assured.
She urged students and residents of Ayawaso West Wuogon to disregard the accusations and focus on her track record of service.
“Do not let lies and propaganda mislead you. On December 7, let us rise above the falsehoods and vote for continued progress and security,” Hon. Lydia urged, endorsing her candidacy and that of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for President.
The MP called for unity and a reaffirmation of her partnership with the University of Ghana community.
