The electrifying response that greeted the previous announcement of Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang in 2020, has vanished into oblivion in 2024.

The 29th February 2024 leakage of one of the three names presented to the leadership of the party saw a massive rejection of Prof. Jane by the general public. She was loudly rejected in the constituencies and on social media.

The skewed publication on some news platforms intended to hoodwink the NDC flagbearer to settle on Madam Jane was shot down by the base of the party and other critical watchers. The announcement was greeted with loud rejection. The base of the party knows the task ahead of the NDC and would not trade the party’s chances with friendly convenience.

The FAKE publication of her announcement as running mate died that very day with no further media interrogation. The morale of the party base fell flat that very morning of the publication and some vowed to advise themselves. This is a major rejection of her candidature.

One reason for her rejection was the need for a succession plan. Another was her contribution to the numbers in her own constituency and region (Central Region) in the 2020 polls. She virtually lost in her own Region, making JM suffer more to make the numbers outside of Central Region. They also mentioned the age factor. It is very true age is not a good friend to Madam Jane. The NDC undoubtedly needs a young, charismatic and energetic person to partner H.E. John Dramani Mahama. A choice that will satisfy the hopes and aspirations of the party’s base. The choice of a co-pilot and not a co-retiree.

It is shameful to know those behind the leakage and their selfish reasons. Their personal interest is diametrically opposite to the interest and forward march of the party. Such elements must be named and shamed for their evil attempt to embarrass the party by hoodwinking the flagbearer by sponsoring that needless publication in the dailies.

We urge H.E. John Dramani Mahama to feel free to name that youthful co-pilot who would lead the party to win 2024, 2028, 2032 and a more victorious future.

We shall continue to expose the enemies of the party.

Long live the truth.

Signed…

M. T. Nortey
