President John Dramani Mahama has established a Constitution Review Committee tasked with addressing gaps in the 1992 Constitution in a bold step towards enhancing Ghana’s democratic governance.
The initiative fulfills the President’s commitment to advancing the implementation of recommendations from prior constitutional review processes.
The Committee, chaired by constitutional law expert Prof. H. Kwasi Prempeh, also has a distinguished lineup of professionals with expertise in law, governance, and public policy.
The membership includes Justice Sophia Adinyirah, Prof. Kwame Karikari, Mrs. Charlotte Osei, Dr. Godwin Djokoto, Ibrahim Tanko Amidu, Dr. Esi Ansah, and Dr. Rainer Akumperigeya, who serves as Secretary.
The Committee’s mandate includes analyzing past recommendations from the 2010 Constitution Review Commission and the 2023 Constitution Review Consultative Committee.
It will also engage key stakeholders to solicit views on proposed amendments and provide actionable recommendations for reform.
The President has tasked the Committee to submit its final report within five months.
