Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia visited Adum, the bustling Central Business District of the Ashanti Region, to offer his heartfelt sympathies to the traders affected by the devastating fire.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, 21 March, saw several trading shops reduced to ashes, leaving many local business owners in dire straits.
Accompanied by former government appointees and prominent leaders of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Bawumia met with the distressed traders on Tuesday, 25 March.
He expressed his sincere concern for those who had lost their livelihoods, stating, “I understand the pain and losses you have suffered. It is my hope that this support will help you rebuild.” His words provided much-needed comfort to the affected community.
In a generous gesture of solidarity, Dr Bawumia donated GH¢200,000 to help the traders begin the process of recovery.
He emphasised that his contribution was a modest step towards restoring their businesses and alleviating some of the financial burdens caused by the tragedy.
“This is just a small way to help you get back on your feet, and I will continue to stand with you in any way I can,” he added.
The fire has left a lasting impact on the local community, with many traders calling for further support from both government and private entities.
Dr Bawumia’s visit and donation have provided a ray of hope, symbolising the collective resolve to overcome the setback.
As investigations into the cause of the fire continue, the community remains determined to rebuild and restore normalcy in the wake of the disaster.
