Major bus terminals at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange in Accra are recording low patronage ahead of Easter festivities.

Checks by the Ghana News Agency at V.I.P Jeoun Transport Limited, Neoplan Station, State Transport Company, and 2M Express on Thursday afternoon revealed a decline in patronage.

Unlike the usual long queues at these terminals, some recorded fewer than 20 trips on the Accra-Kumasi route by 14:30 hours.

Passenger waiting areas were noticeably empty, an unusual sight during the festive season.

Mr. Musah Muntari Ayimemolga Ajono, STC-Circle Branch Manager, said this year’s Easter travels had not matched previous years.

“We hope that tomorrow will be a harvest day for all transport operators ahead of the festivities,” he added, attributing the low patronage to Thursday being a working day.

Mr. Adakabre Frimpong Manso, General Manager of VIP Jeoun Transport Limited, said terminal numbers remained the same as usual. However, he expressed hope that patronage would increase in the coming days.

Mr. Kwadwo Amponsah, a driver at the Neoplan Circle-Nkawkaw Branch, pointed out that new stations across Accra were drawing travelers away from Circle terminals.

“Back then, this was a major station in Accra where people came to board vehicles to Kwahu and Kumasi, however, these days there are Nkawkaw stations everywhere in Accra, so people don’t come here often,” he said.

Some travelers shared with GNA their plans to journey to reconnect with family and friends during the Easter festivities, primarily to the Ashanti, Eastern, and Volta Regions.
